'proper' old style radar mode
Not a new idea, but rather a few comments / suggestions for the classic radar mode, which I believe is at the heart of this project. The purpose of listing it is to (hopefully) show that there is widespread support for such a mode, and not only modern thing such as aircraft silhouettes/icons etc.
The aim of the below points is to describe an old-style radar screen, as I find this cool and unique (I can get the aircraft info on flightradar24, but not a 'proper' radar screen :)
Basis is a primitive planar polar indicator (ppi), with aircraft (or boats) as stationary dots appearing as the radar sweep goes around (6s sweep time, possibly adjustable).
Adjustable screen intensity, giving afterglow and dot size (possibly sepeate parameters), mimicking an old phosphorescent CRT screens. This enables to get a radar track of fading dots, giving heading and speed of the aircraft.
Different classic colours available: green, orange, yellow.
Selectable ranges, possibly steps in different units to cater for different traditions: nm, miles, km (50, 100, 300, 500 km?)
Toggable aircraft details (simple text, possibly selectable details), maybe with a continously moving square (or diamond) which thus lines up with the dot appearing as the sweep comes past.
A simple contour map showing cost lines, and possibly airports, which is refreshed ones per sweep, and the fades.
And finally, a big thank you to Tom for designing the TinyDeskRadar!
